The series of discussion panels accompanying the inaugural Post Pxrn Film Festival Warsaw (7-12 June 2022) will engage with a wide range of questions concerning the visual representations and discussions surrounding corporeality and sexuality. Can we think of sexuality as an all-inclusive humanist project? How are sexual stereotypes translated into violence and repression, and how does this process limit our perspective? What can the working through and rejection of traditional standards contribute to our understanding of reality? In what sense should sexual education be understood as the foundation of democratic education? How can we break with violent patterns of thinking and performing sexuality for pleasure, understood as the realization of fundamental rights of the individual? The debates will map important issues related to today’s development of sexual discourses, including the need for political inclusion in the community of trans people, sex workers, and people with disabilities. We will demonstrate why intimacy is one of the most important paradigms of the 21st century and redefines our identities, relationships, and communities that we can create.
DISCUSSION PANELS, with the academic support of Dr Agata Araszkiewicz and Agata Czarnacka
A number of accompanying workshops and events will address issues linked with the postpornographic approach: pleasure as the fulfilment of rights, identity building vis a vis heteronormativity, being open to touch and intimacy, non-standard sexual techniques, moving beyond and understanding internalized taboos. Thanks to the kindness of our Partners, the workshops will be held at Political Critiques and the Institute for Positive Sexuality offices, as well as the Festival Club in Muranów Cinema. Due to a limited number of places, admission to the workshops will be ticketed (although most workshops will be free of charge).
17:00-20:00, Krytyka Polityczna – Jasna 10/3
with Trans-fuzja (Julia Kata and Emilia Wiśniewska)
workshops for men and those who identify as men (homo, hetero, cis, trans). Physical proximity or the touch of another man can be difficult – we may fear for our sense of masculinity and fear homophobia. Male tenderness can only be shared with a partner or offspring – but even then, the cultural constraints of masculinity do not allow for much freedom in sharing such tender touch. And besides, that touch doesn’t have to be tender –it would be nice to sit close to another man and feel comfortable and calm. Such physical closeness can be non-sexual, safe and supportive, and bring comfort and empathy. In the workshop, we will create a safe space for talking, expressing emotions, and touch. The activities will be based on the theory and practice of empathetic circles of men, in the spirit of consensus, respect for personal boundaries and understanding ourselves and others. (The Organizers kindly ask the Participants to support the activities of The Boys Performative Group by donating approx. 40 PLN

What is and what isn’t pornography? How do ways of seeing and thinking direct our relationship with sexuality and intimacy? What is a sexual body and what is an oppressed body? The workings of pleasure and satisfaction, as well as representations of sexuality, often unknowingly reflect the hierarchies of power and systems of exclusions. How can nudity (the most mystified concept of patriarchy), sensuality, and transgression be revolutionary today?

The history of sexuality, other than the history of male heteronormativity, is full of blank pages and erasures. How can we reinterpret it, starting with the female body? In terms of anatomy, sexuology, history, and philosophy, the clitoris is not only paradoxical as an organ that has long been forgotten by dominant discourses. It also radically undermines the principles of understanding the body in medicine and social and political thought, and poses questions regarding pleasure, culture, art, and women-friendly visual culture.

Join us for an erotic brain (and pussy-) storming around the issue: “Who does female body belong to?”; “This world needs female orgasms!”; “Fall in love with your pussy!”; “Stop shaming women enjoying themselves!”
19:00-21:00, Austrian Cultural Forum, Próżna 7/9, Warsaw

The modern public sphere, and thus the democracies we live in, were built upon the exclusion of elements that destabilized the heteronormative hierarchy: intimacy, emotions, non-binary differences, non-obvious and disjointed identities or ways of living other than the model of heterosexual family based on blood ties and the hierarchy of gender and seniority. Today, we intensify our demand for the repressed, creating new politics based on inclusion, tenderness, and dreams.
15:30-17:30, Austrian Cultural Forum – Próżna 7/9

What if understanding our autonomy and knowing our likes and dislikes – which is what sex education is really about (yes, minister) – is the key to better citizenship, understanding the needs of community and the fact that the only real borders should relate to our rights, and not states. We will talk about whether pleasure can constitute the foundation of society, and what such a society could look like.

The workshop (in English) will provide you with the knowledge needed to take your bondage practice to the next level, independent if you are just beginning or already have experience… As well as safety, technique, and some tricks, we’ll explore options for improvisation. Gain skills which – combined with your own imagination – will open up new, creative possibilities for everybody to tie independently after the workshop is over. The scope and depth covered will be adapted to the needs and speed of the group, and people without bondage experience are welcome. Diversity of all kinds is not only welcome in this workshop, but a fundamental part of it! There is a limited amount of rope to lend: you can also bring/buy your own. Bring comfortable clothes, something to drink, and something to practice on (e.g., pillow, blanket, yoga mat) if you have it.

18:00-20:00, Krytyka Polityczna – Jasna 10/3
with Abortion Dream Team
Sex and pleasure are often an overlooked part of the conversation about abortion. The ban on abortion and the way it is stigmatized are largely about power and shame. Who has the right to have impromptu sex and decide who will bear its “consequences”? Who should be ashamed, and who is socially “punished” for such sex? Who gets called irresponsible or a slut? The workshop is addressed to all those interested in a discussion at the intersection of themes such as sex/abortion/cultural norms.

In his monumental work, Male Fantasies, Klaus Theweleit showed us how patriarchy can condense into fascism. How can we avoid this trap in the future? In The Will to Change. Men, Masculinity, and Love, the feminist philosopher bell hooks wondered how we can create a male identity without violence and hierarchy. Based on both of these books and their own experiences, our guests will consider what postmasculinity should look like.

Our cultural traditions and ways of thinking are not conducive to being open to pleasure and experiencing it. Hosted by: Dr Alicja Długołęcka, psychotherapist and sex educator; Anna Moderska, sex educator at Society for Family Development, @sexdobrywszystkim. (Workshop designed for women)
